Messi: “I’m less obsessed with scoring”

According to captain Lionel Messi, his role in the squad under new coach Ronald Koeman is not as it was before.

“Right now, I’m less obsessed with scoring. My mission is to try to contribute as much as possible to the overall team play,” Messi told Garganta Poderosa magazine on October 15.

Now, Messi is holding a record of 635 goals for Barca. In the last 12 seasons, he has scored at least 31 goals for the club. However, under the leadership of new coach Ronald Koeman, Messi no longer plays the role of striker to score the main goal. This is to help Barca’s collective play become more diverse, avoiding being countered by opponents by blocking M10.

This is the reason why Messi’s number of goals is falling. In the first three matches of La Liga 2020-2021, the Barca captain only scored one goal, from the penalty spot in the 4-0 win over Villarreal. Messi’s most prominent role today is to assist.

Barca’s top scorer since the start of the season is Ansu Fati, a 17-year-old star playing on the left flank. Fati scored a double in the win against Villarreal and opened the score against Celta Vigo 3-0.

Besides football, Messi is also very interested in supporting the Argentine homeland community during the Covid-19 epidemic. The Barca captain has contributed $ 1.2 million to charity work. Messi shared with Garganta Poderosa that during this pandemic, they had to maintain basic necessities such as electricity, water, food. What makes him proud is to see people participating in working in the communities and cafeterias in Argentina. He also confirmed that inequality was the biggest problem in his society, and everyone should join hands to fix this.

After playing for Argentina in the World Cup qualifiers, he decided to return to Barcelona to prepare for a trip to Getafe’s field in La Liga. The match took place at 2 o’clock on Sunday, October 18.

Top 10 players scoring the most goals in World Cup history

The top 10 players who score the most goals in World Cup history do not have the names of the world’s top two superstars Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.

Despite scoring countless goals in their careers, but Messi and Ronaldo are not really predestined to fire in the World Cup arena. Experiencing 4 world football finals in 2006, 2010, 2014 and 2018, CR7 has only 7 goals.

With El Pulga, he scored 1 goal less than his colleague from Portugal. In terms of performance, Messi only scored an average of 0.32 goals/game (19 games in 4 World Cups including 2006, 2010, 2014 and 2018).

Leading the player with the most goals in World Cup history is Miroslav Klose of Germany. The Polish native has 16 goals in 24 matches. Not as smart as Messi or Ronaldo, Klose is a modern striker with excellent wall-making ability. He often overcame the defenders with the ability to flee hidden, and possessed very good header skills.

Behind Klose is the “Alien” Ronaldo. The former player born in 1976 has a superb personal technique. “Fat fat” can dribble, turn the ball, control the ball at the upper level. Through four World Cups in 1994, 1998, 2002 and 2006, Ronaldo scored a total of 15 goals, achieving a performance of 0.79 goals per game.

Third, fourth and fifth were Gerd Mueller (Germany, 14 goals), Just Fontaine (France, 13 goals) and Pele (Brazil, 12 goals).
